These are some of my favorite lyrics and why I love them

I love these songs and hope you do too!

Presumably Dead Arm

Before I get into lyrics, I have to point out my absolute favorite song of Sidney's, and maybe one of my favorites of all time. This song got me through my senior year of high school (and honestly everything after). It was also the first song of hers I heard, and I think it is such a good exhibition of her talent. There are three versions: the single (this one), one on Ed Buys Houses, and a live recording. They all have distinct vibes and are definitely worth a listen.

Midnight Jingle

Oh I wish that I could go away
To a universe where I'm just as creative too
Where every night my thoughts are new
Before I fall asleep at 3
The second hour brings jealousy
There's the geniuses and then there's me
Scrolling through clickbait endlessly

I relate so much to the feeling that you could be more creative if you could just get your life together and get off your phone. It feels worse when you compare yourself to others online (Sidney is ironically one of those people for me), and I think this verse evokes that so plain and simply.

Buckets of Fun

I swear that I'll be buckets of fun
I swear I won't resume being a square until the partying is done
When I'm going to bed I'd rather sleep in
Not like it's different
It's probably morning and if I was counting sheep, they'd all be flaming and unhappy

I obviously can't speak to Sidney's mental health, but her music perfectly describes my experience with depression. I feel like I can picture me completely alienating myself at a party, which is imagery she has used a lot in songs and videos.

Sin Triangle

So I'm just gonna wait for nausea to set in, I'm
Peacing out at eleven, the
Friendly girls are trying to comfort me as if
I'm a depressed chick at a frat party

This is another example of that imagery! As a Greek Life dropout I have always felt like this song was wrtitten exactly for me. The odd line breaks in the lyrics are intentional, and shows her unique musicality she has.

Imposter Syndrome

I am obsessed with dog imagery in music, and this is a perfect example. It so greatly encompasses Sidney's unique storytelling that I love, and I see it as the thesis of her sophomore album.

Hexagons and Other Fun Materials

And it's a blast to high-achieve
But only 'cause approval is the root of what I need
I guess I'll study something else
But this time I won't hate myself

And here she speaks to the gifted kid burnout. I think this is part of why her music speaks so clearly to the college experiece for me.

I Eat Salads Now

It pains me to say but maybe I've grown out of it
(I've grown out, grown out of it)
I'm twenty, washed up already
And all I want to do is sit
(Down sit, down sit, down sit, sit)

She does that again! I'm not even 20 and I have been burnt out for years, and regularly will have freak-outs that I'm "past my prime" even though I'm positive that can't be true. I also admire how her two albums mirror each other in times like this, or the frat party thing.
