Wordpress Project Reflection

Commerce Site-Eva Make Thing

I spent a long time fighting with WordPress on this one. The most crucial thing for me was internalizing how plugins and themes actually work, and how to navigate them. That is something I struggled with in the playground, but having content to actually display via WooCommerce helped me understand how to actually use it. Once I learned the difference between themes and templates, it was more or less smooth sailing. I used a plugin called “Use Any Font” to import Evelyn’s external font. It was difficult to learn how to work that one, but seeing where you can navigate to different plugin settings was helpful. Overall, I’m proud of how the site looks professional to me, with a clear brand voice. I would be proud if Evelyn chose to use this site instead of the current evamakething.com.

Content Site-The War Against My Brain

Once I figured out how to navigate themes on my commerce site, it was much easier to build the content site. Using a minimalist theme made it more difficult to create a good site, because I wanted to add more that wasn’t from the template. I learned a better understanding of WordPress blocks and how they can be used to my advantage in web design. I’m proud of how this site feels right for the subject matter and who I am, but if I could do it again I would vary my content a little more.
